The Kettle Society supports people with mental illness to lead healthier lives by providing support services, advocacy, employment, and mentoring and housing. We work to raise awareness of mental health issues, break down stigma and reduce barriers for people with mental illness. Mental Health Worker - Taylor Manor - Casual (Cooking Required)

Reporting to the Site Manager the Mental Health Worker supports clients by undertaking a variety of activities including case planning or programming for clients, volunteers and/or SEED workers as needed, assisting with daily social, physical, emotional and life skills; works on behalf of the client with a variety of agencies; facilitates programs and activities with large/small group; supports clients to undertake meal planning, meal preparing, and washing dishes and cleaning/tiding up the kitchen. Acts as a role model for the clients in modeling a variety of personal and social activities such as hygiene, meal planning, how to cook meals, how to budget and purchase necessary items; assisting to maintain living spaces to health and safety standards and applying for and keeping employment as appropriate. Performs outreach activities as required.

About Taylor Manor: An enhanced apartment model with over 50 apartments. Staff offer in-house programming, including a hot meal program.

Hours and Days:

We are currently seeking individuals who can work weekdays, weekends, evenings and overnights and we require someone to cook in one of our cook shifts from 12:00PM(Noon) to 8:00PM.

Salary & Compensation:

$31.56 - $33.28 per hour per hour + 10% on each hour worked in lieu of statutory holidays and vacations

Qualifications:

  • Certificate in Community Social Services – Mental Health (or related)

  • One-year experience in a mental health setting including community work experience and volunteer work (or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience)

  • Valid Occupational First Aid Level 1 certificate (or equivalent)

  • Valid Food Safe Level 1 certificate

Abilities & Skills:

  • Ability to work with people with mental illness, hoarders, homeless at risk and addictions

  • Ability to work with bed bug protocol and assist tenants in management of pests

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

  • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others

  • Ability to organize and prioritize

  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with tenants

  • Ability to observe and recognize changes in tenant

  • Have an understanding of psychosocial rehabilitation and concurrent disorders including theories and methods

  • Conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills

  • Ability to prep and cook meals followed by clean up

  • Ability to operate related equipment.

  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
