Mental Health Worker - Supported Independent Living (SIL/SSIL) - Temporary Full Time Until Return of Incumbent
Under the direction of the Supported Housing Manager, the SIL/SUPERSIL Mental Health Worker is responsible for the delivery of housing and support services, enabling clients to enter, maintain and exit (where appropriate) supported, independent living. This position specifically focuses on ensuring clients are safely housed in the community.
The Kettle’s Supported Independent Living (SIL) program is designed to help adults with serious and persistent mental illness live independently in subsidized market rental apartments.

$31.56 to $33.28 per hour + Benefits
Duties:
Support, encourage and facilitate the acquisition of independent living skills.
Observe clients, identify and assess potential emergency situations and develop short-term strategies to deal with such situations. Report medical, behavioral, and other problems as required. Provide feedback and input regarding clients' needs, performance, and progress.
Provide supportive feedback, demonstrations, modeling, and behaviour management to clients and their personal networks to assist with the development of physical, social, emotional, and life skills such as maintaining personal hygiene, assisting in housekeeping, meal planning and preparation, meeting financial obligations, making and keeping appointments and interpersonal skills.
As per client goals and interests, identify available social, economic, recreational, and educational services and resources in the community that will meet clients' needs.
Facilitate clients' physical, recreational, educational, and employment needs by performing duties such as arranging for clients to be transported, or whenever feasible, assist with accessing and using public transportation to ensure attendance at programs, appointments and community integration of client within neighborhood resources (shopping, recreational, library etc.,)
Support client with advocacy issues such as residential tenancy disputes, financial matters etc., by accessing informed sources for clients rights, such as but not limited to: advocates, TRAC, and other appropriate legal supports.
Carry out administrative transactions such as itemizing petty cash receipts and client file forms, ensuring they are all updated and completed in client file.
Complete and maintain related records and documentation such as Individual Service Plans, progress reports, program summary sheets, and daily logs.
Ensure the maintenance, cleanliness, and safety of programs and residence. Follow through on maintenance, cleanliness, and safety issues as directed by the Manager of Housing Services.
Orient new staff by sharing job information.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Grade 12
Community Social Worker Diploma
2 years of recent related experience including direct practical experience working such as crisis intervention, conflict resolution, psychological rehabilitation techniques, homelessness, working with individuals with mental illness and/or addiction and/or concurrent disorders.
Working knowledge of the residential tenancy act
OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and life and/or work experience
Basic First Aid (Formerly known as Occupational Basic First Aid (OFA) Level 1)
WHMIS
