Meet Rebecca
For many people at The Kettle, stable housing is the first step toward rebuilding a life. Rebecca’s story is a powerful reminder of what that foundation can make possible.
Rebecca has been part of The Kettle Society’s Supported Independent Living (SIL) program since 2001. Before joining the program, Rebecca had been in and out of the hospital and jumping from group home to group home. Managing bipolar disorder limited her ability to work, leaving her struggling to afford basic necessities and unable to build the stability needed to move forward.
Today, life looks a lot different.
Thanks to the SIL program, Rebecca is now thriving. She has a stable job at the Vancouver International Airport and has built a life filled with connection, purpose, and partnership with David, her partner of 19 years and fellow member of The Kettle community.
That’s 25 years of stability, dignity and opportunity made possible by donors like you.
“Having housing gave me the breathing room to get well enough that I could get some gainful employment. So that I could move forward in life,” Rebecca says.
Rebecca was recently diagnosed with a probable rare non-autoimmune stiff person spectrum disorder, and David is living with Parkinson’s. While these challenges are significant, they are facing the future together, knowing they can rely on The Kettle’s wraparound support.
At The Kettle, housing is more than a place to live - it is a safe, vibrant community where people are supported to build meaningful lives.
Our housing programs—from 24/7 supported care to independent living—foster safety, autonomy, and connection. For many residents, like Rebecca and David, secure housing is the starting point for accessing integrated support, laying the foundation for a meaningful life.
Stories like Rebecca and David’s show what your support makes possible: not just housing, but lasting stability, connection, and hope.
Thank you for your incredible generosity. Every day, your partnership changes lives at The Kettle, and we are deeply grateful for all you make possible.
