Dave Jagpur
Ministry of Social Development & Poverty Reduction

I’ve seen some of the City of Vancouver stats and we’re starting to see overdose deaths in communities like Killarney. Stigma is a big part of that. I like that The Kettle has always been providing these two services [advocacy and education].

“Most people wanted to kick me to the curb, and here they accept me as a human being.”

My connection to The Kettle, it’s like my second home. I just feel welcomed. Most of my life because of where I’ve been, people wanted to kick me to the curb, and here they accept me as a human being. They treat me with love, respect, and kindness.

Paula Katajamaki
Ministry of Social Development & Poverty Reduction

I see them as a really big face in the community.

“I had nothing before. Now I have an apartment, a dog, a garden that I take care of, a job. I have a life.”

100% my life is different today because of The Kettle. I had nothing before. Now I have an apartment, a dog, a garden that I take care of, a job. I have a life. If I had a wish for The Kettle, it would be another 40 years.

Brenda Prosken
Regional Director, BC Housing

They were willing to take on, and really spearheaded and led, the ID Bank. They’ve got lots of good community buy in, a good reputation & they really reciprocate that by listening to the community, its needs & to the individuals who are sheltered, in particular.

“I believe in miracles & for our family The Kettle has been one.”

It has provided safety, and comfort and care for our family member so that we have piece at mind.

Our Ministry has moved away in the last several years from being client-centric. You’re going to see us reaching out more, partnering with community organizations through partnerships like the ID Bank.

“I couldn’t get a job anywhere else when I was truthful about my mental health. I’m so happy to have one now.”
