Maintenance Worker - Kettle on Burrard - Part Time

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Manager, Infrastructure & Facilities at Kettle on Burrard, the Maintenance Worker performs general maintenance and repair related to buildings and equipment; performs routine preventative maintenance duties within the building.

Salary & Compensation:

$25.18 per hour + benefits

Typical Duties & Responsibilities:

1.     Monitors and carries out assigned preventative maintenance processes on assigned equipment within the building.

2.     Performs security duties as relief and support in the security office when requested.

3.     Performs regular maintenance roaming duties and routine scheduled inspections.

4.     Troubleshoots equipment prior to referring to Manager for direction and resolution.

5.     Basic repairs to items such as walls, doors, ceiling and windows by applying materials such as drywall, wood paneling, floor and ceiling coverings and glass.

6.     Replaces plumbing fixtures such as sinks, faucets and toilets; repairs plumbing fixtures.

7.     Repairs furniture, disassembling and reassembles furniture and equipment and reconstructs shelves; Replaces or installs electrical switches; Replaces electrical plugs and other basic appliance repairs; applies paint and other finishes; Repairs drywall; Installs finishing materials such as linoleum.

8.     Supports service vendors by directing them to the location of the equipment or mechanical room. Relays information regarding the equipment to the service vendor. Monitors length of time the service provider is on site.

9.     Maintains maintenance logs and supply logs. Notifies the Manager or designate when supplies are required.

10.  Participates in staff meetings by sharing job related information and sharing ideas and suggestions.

11.  Participates in positive/effective communication between staff and management by verbal and/or written transmission of job related information.

12.  Participates in ensuring the work environment is positive by implementing all aspects of the Employers policies including Respect in the Workplace Policy and Violence Prevention Policy.

13.  Participates in ensuring a safe work environment for staff and Member/clients by reporting any situations which require equipment and/or building repairs.

14.  Perform weekly, and monthly suite inspections, and move-in and move-out inspections.

15.  Operates heating room, and loads and unloads heating room (bed bug sauna) when required.

16.  Provides basic first-aid and naloxone for clients, if required. May refer the client to another staff member such as the Mental Health Worker or may call an ambulance.

17.  Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

Education, Training, and Experience

  • Completion of Grade 12

  •  Two years of recent related experience

  • Or, and equivalent combination of education, training and experience (electrical, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry or painting consistent with applicable codes and regulations)

  • Current and up to date certificates in CPR, Basic First Aid, WHMIS

  • Mental Health First-Aid

Skills & Availability:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to deal with others effectively including those with mental health issues.

  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

  • Ability to operate related equipment.

  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.

  • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.
