Health & Safety Coordinator
Job Summary
Reporting to the Director, Health, Safety and Wellness, provides internal occupational health and safety support to Kettle worksites, and liaises with external stakeholders (regulators, third party contractors, etc.).

Typical Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist in the development and implementation of health and safety policies, procedures and programs.
Conduct regular workplace inspections and audits to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Support incident investigations, including documentation, root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Maintain accurate records of safety training, inspections, incidents and compliance reports.
Coordinate and deliver safety orientations and training sessions for new and existing employees, third party contractors as needed.
Participate in Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Committee meetings and support committee activities
Monitor and ensure compliance with local and provincial health and safety legislation.
Assist third parties (ergonomists, occupational therapists) with job site visits to review job duties as these relate to occupational hazards and/or disease.
Promote a culture of safety through awareness campaigns and employee engagement initiatives
Assist with emergency preparedness planning and drills.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
Diploma or Certificate in Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
0-2 years of experience in a health and safety role (co-op placements considered).
Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation (e.g. WorkSafe BC, OH&S regulations).
Strong organizational and communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Ability to travel between program sites as needed.
Strong commitment to equity, inclusion and trauma-informed approaches.
Preferred Qualifications
Basic First Aid or Mental Health First Aid certification
Experience working in social services, non-profit, or community-based organizations
Valid BC Driver’s License
Violence Prevention certification
Food Safe certification
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of policies, regulations and legislation governing occupational health and safety in British Columbia.
Knowledge of other regulatory framework applicable to managing and operating supported housing and licensed care sites (bylaws, life and fire safety, food safety, tenant related regulations, etc.)
An understanding of the psychological, physical and social aspects of working with adults with mental illness and those suffering(ed) from abuse, addiction, homelessness and recovery.
Intermediate to advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office to include Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
Additional Information
This is a hybrid position, requiring a minimum of three days per week in-office at The Kettle Society’s East Vancouver headquarters and Taylor Manor, with up to two remote days per week if desired.

Compensation
The successful candidate will start at a rate between $54,623 and $64,864 per annum depending on qualifications, based on a 37.5-hour work week. This will be individually tailored to reflect your unique experience and qualifications as they relate to the role, along with internal equity.
