Darkness Into Light

Darkness Into Light Vancouver is a very special morning that involves a 5km walk beginning at 4:45am. Participants walk from darkness into the morning light in the name of mental health awareness and suicide prevention.

This event began as a means of fundraising for an Irish organization called, Pieta House, and raising awareness around mental health issues in Ireland. Pieta House provides life saving support to people in suicidal distress or are engaging in self-harm. Pieta House also provides suicide bereavement counselling. All of these services are provided completely free of charge. This service was the first of its kind in Ireland when it opened its doors in Dublin in 2006. Now, in 2019, Pieta House has 12 centres around the country.

The very first Darkness Into Light was held in 2009 in the Phoenix Park with 400 walkers. In 2018, over 200,000 people walked at dawn, together in hope over 28 countries across the world.

Each Darkness Into Light walk outside of Ireland selects a local mental health charity to partner with, and the funds raised are divided equally between Pieta House and the chosen partner charity.

This year, Darkness Into Light Vancouver partnered with The Kettle and we are THRILLED to announce they raised $16,237!
